Privacy Policy
No accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and nothing is sent to us.
This policy explains how TalkShadow (“the app”), a Mac app for language learners that loops the sentences of an audio or video file and records your attempts, developed by Kevin Fitzgerald, handles information.
Information we collect
None. TalkShadow does not collect, store, sell or share personal information on any server, and it does not include analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking tools of any kind.
Information stored on your Mac
To work, the app keeps the following on your Mac only:
- A session per file you open: its sentences and transcript, your place, hard marks and loop settings
- Your recorded attempts, as audio files
- For a video, a copy of its sound track
- Your license key and the trial’s start date, in your Mac’s Keychain
Sessions and recordings are in your user Library (Application Support, under com.fitz1567.talkshadow), a video’s sound track is in its Caches folder, and the license key and trial date are in your Keychain. None of it is sent to us.
Speech recognition and the microphone
macOS asks for Speech Recognition when you open your first file and for the Microphone the first time you record. Recognition runs on your Mac (on-device only); if your Mac has no on-device model for the file’s language, TalkShadow splits sentences at the pauses instead. The microphone is used only while you record an attempt.
Network
TalkShadow is sold directly through Gumroad, and its only network requests are the license check with Gumroad (your license key, when you enter it and about once a week) and checks for app updates at fitztoppicks.com. Neither sends anything about your files or recordings.
Purchases
TalkShadow is sold directly through Gumroad, which handles payment and sends your receipt and license key; we never see your payment details. The app sends your license key to Gumroad to check it, and nothing else.
Children’s privacy
Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the app ever begins collecting data, this policy will be updated before that happens.
