Privacy Policy
No accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and nothing is sent to us.
This policy explains how Story Week (“the app”), a family story-recording app for iPhone and iPad, developed by Kevin Fitzgerald, handles information.
Information we collect
None. Story Week does not collect, store, sell or share personal information on any server, and it does not include analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking tools of any kind.
Information stored on your iPhone or iPad
To work, the app keeps the following on your iPhone or iPad only:
- Each book’s details: the storyteller’s and organizer’s names, the title, dedication, schedule, language and book settings
- The questions, from the question bank or written by the organizer, and when each one goes out
- The recorded answers (audio), their transcripts and any edits to them
- Family photos added to a story, with their captions
- On each device: which book is open, and whether you are the organizer, the storyteller or family in it
It’s kept in Story Week’s own storage on each device and in iCloud, in the organizer’s own iCloud account (Apple’s CloudKit), shared only with the people the organizer invites. We, the developer, have no server and can’t see, open or receive anything stored there. It is removed from a device if you delete the app, and from iCloud if the organizer deletes the book.
Your family’s own iCloud, not ours
Story Week syncs through Apple’s iCloud. Each book is stored in the organizer’s iCloud account and shared, with Apple’s own iCloud sharing, only with the people the organizer invites. Recordings go from the storyteller’s iPhone or iPad into that iCloud and from there to the organizer’s device. They never pass through a server of ours, and we have no way to see them. Data in your iCloud is handled under Apple’s privacy policy and counts against the organizer’s iCloud storage, about 20 MB for each hour of recordings.
Why the App Store label says “Data Not Collected”
Apple’s label counts data as collected when it’s sent off the device to the developer or a partner. Story Week sends nothing to us or to anyone else: your recordings and transcripts travel only between your family’s devices through your own iCloud, which we can’t read. That’s why the label is “Data Not Collected”.
The microphone and speech recognition
Story Week uses the microphone only while you record an answer, and iOS asks first. Transcripts are made on the organizer’s iPhone or iPad with Apple’s on-device speech recognition; the audio isn’t sent to Apple or to us for this. The first time, iOS may download the language model for transcription from Apple. If on-device transcription isn’t available for a language or device, the story is kept without a transcript and can be typed by hand.
Photos, notifications and the book
Photos come through the system photo picker, which gives Story Week only the photos you choose. Reminders are local notifications planned on the device. The book and cover PDFs are made on your device and go only where you save, share or print them. If you upload them to a print service such as Lulu or Blurb, that service’s own privacy policy applies; Story Week takes no part in the order.
Purchases
Story Week is sold through Apple’s App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your payment details.
Children’s privacy
Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the app ever begins collecting data, this policy will be updated before that happens.
