A volume slider for every app

Answers to common questions are below. If yours isn’t, email k.fitzgerald310@gmail.com with your Mac model and macOS version.

Getting started

macOS asks to allow audio recording. Why?

That’s the permission macOS uses for any app that adjusts other apps’ sound. Mixbar uses it only to change volume live. Nothing is recorded or saved. You can review it in System Settings › Privacy & Security, under screen and system audio recording.

An app isn’t in the list.

Apps appear while they play sound. Start playback in that app and it shows up, or turn on Show apps that aren’t playing in Settings.

Boosted sound seems flattened.

Above 100%, a built-in limiter keeps loud moments from crackling, which can make very loud sources sound squashed. Lower that app’s slider a little.

Features

Can I send one app to different speakers?

Yes. Click the … button at the end of that app’s row and choose an output, for example music to your speakers and a call to your headphones. Reset to normal in the same menu undoes it.

How do the keyboard shortcuts work?

Turn on Keyboard shortcuts in Settings. They act on the app you’re using: ⌃⌥M mutes or unmutes it, ⌃⌥= turns it up 10%, and ⌃⌥- turns it down 10%.

Does it open at login?

Only if you turn on Open at login in Settings.

Purchases

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles App Store refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Do I have to pay again on another Mac?

No. Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account on your other Mac and download it from your purchases.
