Test controllers and keep a repair record

Need a hand?

Answers to common questions are below. If yours isn’t, email k.fitzgerald310@gmail.com with your Mac model and macOS version.

Getting started

My controller doesn’t show up.

Connect it with a USB cable if you can (some controllers send their full data only over USB) and check it appears in the sidebar under Controllers or Joysticks. Bluetooth controllers must be paired in System Settings › Bluetooth first. Xbox controllers over USB aren’t HID devices, so they appear only as controllers, not in the raw HID view.

Why do the raw HID numbers differ from the controller view?

macOS processes controller input (deadzone and scaling) before apps see it. The raw HID view shows what the device itself sends, which is better for exact drift and deadzones. Some controllers (PlayStation over Bluetooth, Switch Pro, Joy-Con) share only part of their raw data once macOS takes over.

How do I test a stick swap?

Pick the controller, type the unit and choose the stage Before stick swap, run Drift at rest, Circularity and Return to center, and choose Save Session…. After the swap, set the stage to After stick swap, run the same tests and save again. In History, pick the After session and choose Compare With.

Are the limits manufacturer specs?

No. The default thresholds are guidance; with Pro you can change them in Settings › Thresholds. Input Verdict measures how the controls respond, not battery life, cosmetics or wireless range.
