Vintage Disk Reader

Privacy Policy

Effective September 29, 2026

The short version: Vintage Disk Reader does not collect your data, and the disk images and files you open never leave your Mac.

No accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and nothing is sent to us.

This policy explains how Vintage Disk Reader (“the app”), a Mac app for opening classic Mac disk images and converting the files inside, developed by Kevin Fitzgerald, handles information.

Information we collect

None. Vintage Disk Reader does not collect, store, sell or share personal information on any server, and it does not include analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking tools of any kind.

Information stored on your Mac

To work, the app keeps the following on your Mac only:

Disk images are read where they are and never changed. Files you extract or convert are written only to the folder you choose, and nothing is ever sent to us.

Files you open

Vintage Disk Reader can open only the images and files you choose or drop on it, and write only to the folders you choose for extracting or converting. Everything is read and converted on your Mac.

Quick Look

Vintage Disk Reader’s Quick Look extension previews classic MacPaint, PICT, MacWrite, ClarisWorks, Word for Mac and WordPerfect files in Finder. It reads only the file Finder asks it to preview, can’t change it, and keeps nothing.

Open-source software

Vintage Disk Reader converts classic documents with libmwaw 0.3.22, libwpd 0.10.3 and librevenge 0.0.5, by the libmwaw, libwpd and LibreOffice contributors, used unmodified under the Mozilla Public License 2.0. Their source code is available at those links, and the exact released files Vintage Disk Reader is built from are libmwaw-0.3.22.tar.xz, libwpd-0.10.3.tar.xz and librevenge-0.0.5.tar.bz2. They’re built with header-only parts of the Boost C++ Libraries (Boost Software License 1.0). Vintage Disk Reader’s disk image, volume, picture and fork readers are its own. The full notices and the license text are in Vintage Disk Reader › Acknowledgements and in the download’s “Open-Source Licenses.txt”.

Network

Disk images and files are read and converted on your Mac, and nothing about them is ever uploaded. Vintage Disk Reader is sold directly through Gumroad, and its only network requests are the license check with Gumroad (your license key, when you enter it and about once a week) and checks for app updates at fitztoppicks.com. Neither sends anything about your images or files.

Purchases

Vintage Disk Reader is sold directly through Gumroad, which handles payment and sends your receipt and license key; we never see your payment details. The app sends your license key to Gumroad to check it, and nothing else.

Children’s privacy

Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the app ever begins collecting data, this policy will be updated before that happens.
