Answers to common questions are below. If yours isn’t, email k.fitzgerald310@gmail.com with your Mac model and macOS version.
Using TreeTidy
How do I get a GEDCOM file?
Your family-tree program can export one (usually File › Export, as GEDCOM). TreeTidy reads GEDCOM 5.5.1 and 7.0. Import the cleaned copy back into your program the same way.
Will it change my original file?
No. Fixes are previewed and applied in TreeTidy, and Save Cleaned Copy writes a new file named “(tidied)” with a change log. Opened and saved with no fixes, a file comes back byte for byte.
Does it merge people by itself?
No. Likely duplicates are marked “Check first” and never ticked for you. A merge keeps every name, fact and source of both records, and you can undo it.
Why aren’t impossible dates fixed?
Only you know which date is wrong, so they’re flagged, never changed. Settings › Checks sets the limits (like a parent’s youngest age).
TreeTidy Pro
What’s free, and what does Pro add?
Free: open, scan and the full report as PDF or text. Pro adds applying fixes, merging duplicates and saving the cleaned copy with its change log. It’s a one-time purchase on Gumroad, with no subscription.
Where do I enter my license key?
Choose TreeTidy › Settings…, open the Pro tab, paste the key from your Gumroad receipt and click Activate.
How do I get updates?
TreeTidy checks for updates on its own; you can also choose Check for Updates… from the TreeTidy menu. Updates are free.
Purchases
How do I get a refund?
Gumroad handles payment. Reply to your Gumroad receipt or email k.fitzgerald310@gmail.com.
Do I have to pay again on another Mac?
No. One license key works on up to 3 of your Macs. Download the app again from your Gumroad receipt or library and enter the same key.
