SEO Desk privacy policy
Effective October 6, 2026
SEO Desk is a Chrome extension by Kevin Fitzgerald. It does not collect your data. There is no account, no analytics and no server of ours: what you save stays in your browser on this computer.
What it keeps on your computer
- Each tool's settings (ignore rules, time limits, naming rules, brand templates, detection rules)
- Your title and description projects: page addresses you type or import, titles, descriptions and keywords
- Structured data you're editing, templates you save and bulk CSV settings
- The robots.txt text, addresses and crawlers you test, and (Pro) saved tests per site
- UTM presets and (Pro) a history of the links you built
- Snapshots of pages you choose to compare or save (address, title, visible text, SEO tags, links, images, headings)
- With Pro: speed measurements per page and the sites you checked for technologies, with your notes
- The current link check's results, only until the browser closes
- Your license key, if you buy Pro
This lives in the browser's own extension storage. Removing the extension deletes it.
Network
SEO Desk reads a page only when you click its button on that page and never sends anything about it to us or anyone else: no account, no analytics, no lookup services. It makes requests of its own only when you ask: checking links asks each link's own server for that address once (no cookies, no referrer), Pro's site crawl reads up to 50 pages of your site after its robots.txt, Robots.txt's Fetch downloads that site's robots.txt, and a page's share image loads only when you click Load image. Checking a Pro license key contacts Gumroad when you activate it and every two weeks.
Pro purchases
Pro is sold by Gumroad, which handles the payment and emails your license key. Gumroad's own privacy policy covers that purchase. When you activate a key, SEO Desk sends the key and SEO Desk's Gumroad product ID to Gumroad's license server (api.gumroad.com) to check it, and checks it again about every two weeks. Nothing else is sent.
Permissions
- activeTab: Gives SEO Desk access to the current tab only when the user clicks its toolbar button (or presses its shortcut), so the page tools (Page check, Speed, Broken links, Compare pages, Tech stack) can read that one page and UTM links can read its address.
- scripting: Runs one-time, read-only functions in that tab: reading its title, meta tags, headings, structured data, links, performance records, visible text and technology markers. With Pro, it also draws a temporary outline around elements the user asks to see (a slow element, a broken link). The page is not otherwise changed.
- storage: Keeps each tool's settings and the user's own work on this computer: title and description projects, schema drafts and templates, robots.txt tests, UTM presets and history, page snapshots, speed history, the current link check, and the Pro license.
- sidePanel: Lets the user keep SEO Desk open in Chrome's side panel next to their CMS or spreadsheet while writing titles, schema markup or robots.txt rules.
- http://*/*, https://*/* (optional): Never granted at install. Asked for one site at a time, at the moment of use: when the user checks a page's links (that page's site, and other sites only if the user allows that exact list) or fetches a site's robots.txt (that one site). Removable on the settings page.
- api.gumroad.com (asked only when you activate a key): to check your Pro license key.
Sharing and selling
Nothing is sold or shared. No data is used for advertising, credit or lending.
Children
SEO Desk isn't directed at children under 13 and collects nothing from anyone.
