Privacy Policy
No accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and nothing is sent to us.
This policy explains how Plainwire (“the app”), a native API client for the Mac, developed by Kevin Fitzgerald, handles information.
Information we collect
None. Plainwire does not collect, store, sell or share personal information on any server, and it does not include analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking tools of any kind.
Information stored on your Mac
To work, the app keeps the following on your Mac only:
- Your settings, the environment you last picked in each collection, and bookmarks for the collection folders and body files you chose, so Plainwire can open them again
- Your history: the requests you sent and their responses (each body up to 256 KB), up to the number you choose (100 to 2,000). Passwords and tokens in auth fields, credential headers and secret-looking query values are masked
- Passwords, tokens and API keys you enter, in the Keychain on your Mac
- Cookies set by the servers you send requests to, until they expire or you clear them in Settings
- Which collection folders you allowed to run scripts
It stays on your Mac, in Plainwire’s own storage and your Keychain, and is never sent to us. Deleting the app and its container (in your user Library, under Containers) removes it; its Keychain items (named “Plainwire: …”) can be removed in Keychain Access.
Your collections
Collections are files in folders you choose, and Plainwire changes only those files. Where they go from there, such as a Git repository you push, is up to you.
Your requests
Plainwire sends a request only when you send it, to the server you typed, with the headers, body and credentials you gave it. That server’s own privacy policy applies. Nothing about your requests is sent to us.
Scripts
Scripts and tests are JavaScript that you or your team write. They run on your Mac and can’t download code, make network requests or open files.
Local network
On macOS 15 and later, macOS asks for your permission the first time you send a request to a device on your local network. You can change your answer in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.
Purchases
Plainwire is sold through Apple’s Mac App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your payment details.
Children’s privacy
Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the app ever begins collecting data, this policy will be updated before that happens.
