Using Driftpane
Where is it?
Driftpane lives in the menu bar (no Dock icon). Click its icon to pick a scene from thumbnails, turn on Shuffle Daily, pause it, or open Settings….
Does it slow my Mac or drain the battery?
It draws only while you can see the desktop: it pauses when windows cover it, when the screen is locked or asleep, during the screen saver, and on battery or in Low Power Mode (unless you turn on Run on Battery, which runs at 15 frames a second and half resolution). Big 4K and 5K displays use Auto quality, and it slows down when the Mac runs hot.
How do I get the real weather?
Open Settings › Weather and type a city or ZIP code, or turn on Use my location. Alpine Lake, Rainy Window Café and Zen Koi Pond follow the rain, snow, clouds and fog there; with no place, they use fair weather.
Which Macs does it run on?
macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later).

What’s free, and what does Pro add?
Deep Reef is free, without a key. Pro adds ten more scenes: Fairytale Castle, Rainy Window Café, Alpine Lake, Northern Lights Cabin, Earth from Orbit, Zen Koi Pond, Neon City Rain, Nebula Flythrough, Tropical Beach Sunset and Cozy Fireplace Library. It’s a one-time purchase on Gumroad, with no subscription, and the license key works on up to 3 of your Macs.
Where do I enter my license key?
Click Driftpane’s menu bar icon, choose Settings…, open the Pro tab, paste the key from your Gumroad receipt and click Activate.
How do I get updates?
Driftpane checks for updates on its own; you can also choose Check for Updates… from its menu bar icon. Updates are free.
Is it on the Mac App Store?
No. Driftpane is sold only directly, signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.

Gumroad handles payment. Reply to your Gumroad receipt or email k.fitzgerald310@gmail.com.
Do I have to pay again on another Mac?
No. One license key works on up to 3 of your Macs. Download the app again from your Gumroad receipt or library and enter the same key.
