Directory

Privacy Policy

Effective September 29, 2026

The short version: Directory does not collect your data.

No accounts, ads, analytics or tracking, and nothing is sent to us.

This policy explains how Directory (“the app”), a file manager for the Mac, developed by Kevin Fitzgerald, handles information.

Information we collect

None. Directory does not collect, store, sell or share personal information on any server, and it does not include analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking tools of any kind.

Information stored on your Mac

To work, the app keeps the following on your Mac only:

It stays in Directory’s own storage on your Mac and is never sent to us. It is removed if you delete the app.

Your files

Directory shows, previews and changes only the files and folders you ask it to, in the folders you gave it access to. Nothing about your files is ever sent anywhere; checksums, folder sizes, Git badges, duplicates and archives are all worked out on your Mac.

Search

Searches use Spotlight, the search built into macOS, on your Mac.

Purchases

Directory is sold through Apple’s Mac App Store. Apple handles payment; we never see your payment details.

Children’s privacy

Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the app ever begins collecting data, this policy will be updated before that happens.
